My coworker, Ellen, essentially retired today. She opted for retirement to deal with some urgent family issues, so her leaving was precipitous.
We didn't really have enough time to prepare for her leaving, both mentally & practically, our boss just field-promoted another coworker to take over her duties, at least temporarily. We also didn't have time to really set up a proper retirement party, or even think about work life w/o her. This is going to be strange...
